Therapy vs Mentorship

Both Mentors and Therapists can help support and guide teens to make better choices, assist with communication and life skills, provide a safe environment that allows them to speak freely, assist in the development of tools that enable them to achieve specific goals, and enhance their quality of life.  Both Mentors and Therapists can provide guidance, support and encouragement, and both can  result in positive, lasting changes.

The key difference between Teen Therapy and Teen Mentoring is that mentors do not attempt to resolve deep underlying issues a teen is facing such as clinical depression or traumatic events. If deeper underlying issues are present Therapy may be a better choice. It is important to explore with your Teen Mentor or Therapist which will be the most beneficial. To do so, an intake process should be preformed which may include: filling out intake forms, an intake session, meeting with the therapist/mentor, and speaking with the therapist/mentor over the phone.
